Best thing: Finding Qasr Amra
Worst thing: Being stuck on base…still.
Fav song of the blog: Nasty Freestyle by Veorra
It’s really difficult to write a blog when you basically do the same exact thing every day. I currently live on a base, somewhere near/in Jordan, working as a contractor pilot supporting our troops. My mission is ISR which means intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. Trust me though, it sounds much cooler than it really is. Most likely the most boring flying I have done in my career. Even worse is I’m stuck here. I rarely get to go anywhere. I’ve never had what you call a “9-5” job. I don’t deal with structure or getting into a routine very well. For many people it’s great, for me it’s not. So being in an entirely new country but restricted to a small area is really discouraging.

I did get to do a little exploring this last week. Got to see more of Amman and found Al-Rainbow Street. I would call this more of a “western” area of the city with some decent hookah lounges, nice restaurants, and a couple decent views.

Also we randomly decided to stop at some ruins on the side of the road which turned out to be quite a surprise. It turned out to be Qasr Amra which is 1 of 4 World Heritage Sites in Jordan. We found a little tour guide that was 5 foot nothing, who explained to us that there were no tickets but if we tipped he could show us around (of course). He turned out pretty decent though and even though he stunk, I thought he earned his tip.

Inside was beautifully painted with different scenes ranging from the oldest image of the night sky painted on anything other than a flat surface to a mural depicting someone from birth through death. Built sometime between 723-743 AD, it turned out to be an excellent find.

Work on the website is still coming along. I’m also in talks with a kiteboarding company on a possible sponsorship which would be just fantastic. The sponsorship looks like it’s a go and I might be getting much more equipment than what I asked. So yay free stuff!
It’s hard not to spend most of my day fantasizing about the upcoming trip, but before play must come work. Got a flickr account, and learning what Instagram is so stay tuned on that. Also still looking for suggestions/comments so blast away.
