Hi
I have a questions regarding Flysurfer Soul vs Sonic2 and launching technique. I kitesurf mostly with inflatables but also have FS Sonic2 13m for lighter winds. I still find myself struggling when it comes to launching especially in the upper wind range, as tips can collapse and I can not get them inflated . I launch mostly at the side of the window. Is launching Soul easier than Sonic2?

Hi Norbert, sorry for the late response, I’ve been doing quite a bit of traveling. How are you launching your Soul? I always launch with the trimmer set to full power and sheet in the bar while I’m launching, keeping the kite backstalled until it’s mostly filled. This seems dangerous in higher winds but after a couple times practice it is quite easy. Just give yourself a good amount of room downwind for the first couple times. This method prevents the wing tips from collapsing and makes the kite still very controllable.
As for the Soul vs Sonic2 in launching. In my opinion there really isn’t much of a difference between the two. The wing tips on the Soul take a little longer to fill because there’s more space between the wing tip and last intake. Try my method of launching and see if that helps.

Now, How the hell fo you self land a flysurfer soul in a tight spot, danger downwind, and overpowered conditions?
I’ve tried your technique on your youtube video, testing the 8. Looks great but, even i tried bringing the kite the wind windows edge, and grab the steering lines, lower first, to bsck stall, the kite goes violently downwind, tumbling….
Any HELP, bro.????

Hey Tommy, I’m so sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I’m not Very website savvy. I just released a video breaking down different ways you can self land these foil kites.
For backstalling at the edge of the wind window/45, as you initially began your backstall you want to quickly move yourself upwind. This helps prevent that kite from moving around. In my Soul 8 video, that was more of using a wind shadow off of the trees which is why I didn’t need to do that.

I agree with everything you said in your 6 m Soul video. I am amazed how well it foils even in 10kts. Thanks for the video! I also enjoyed the self landing video. Funny thing, I bought a 13m peak 4 and couldn’t make it do anything! It never once in five attempts had enough power to get me going. Thanks Jason for all your help!

Thank you Peter! The Peak4 is very different type of flying. You have to figure 8 the kite to get the power out of it, it takes some practice to get it right. You want to keep the kite lower in the power zone and fly it across to build up the power. It doesn’t have the power spike like a soul.

Hey Jason, thank you for your many very helpful videos. Your evening session on the Peak 6m in Padre was very well done. I have just switched over to the Peak. You might be surprised to learn that the evening session video is a great instructional video. Right now I am working on getting up with a loop, rather than going out on a bigger kite. Your shots of your starts are helping me to find the right sized loop and position. Thanks again for the great content.

This year I haven’t been able to do as much kiting, currently recovering from shoulder surger #2 but this one is feeling like it did some good so I am hoping to be back on the water by late summer.
